Family, Work & Wellbeing 2024

In this personal wellbeing weekend for women we focus on holistic personal well-being by integrating all aspects of life: Family, Work and Society. When properly integrated, these spaces can serve as the means to thrive and truly flourish, both individually and collectively.  We shall dive into creating and managing healthy relationships by focusing on our own personalities.
Organised by Sokafoundation in cooperation with SheSustains.

The program includes:

27 September, Day 1: Welcome with Borrel & Games.

28 September, Day 2: Two captivating stories of professional challenges and personal transformations. The narratives will pave the way for the Importance of Cultivating Healthy Relationships and Authentic Friendships. The day also offers ample opportunities for mindfulness and reconnection, featuring a serene nature walk and an enlightening Workshop entitled: ‘Focus on Process’ – An Analogy of life with Soap Making.

29 September, Day 3: This day will be dedicated to exploring the essence of relationships and effective communication by diving into a reflective presentation & workshop by Gabriella Buirma-Rieu. Husbands/partners and kids from 15 years are also welcome to join.

Day 2

‘Focus on Process’ – An Analogy of life with Soap Making Workshop by Veena Joseph; Forerunners Consulting & Coaching and Co-founder of SheSustains.

In this workshop, the soap-making process serves as a metaphor for life. As we learn both cold and hot process techniques, we reflect on how each stage mirrors life’s challenges and growth. This reflective practice helps participants become more mindful of how they approach processes in everyday life, including relationships and personal goals, ultimately exploring the deeper essence of life and how we evolve through it.

Story Sharing I: ‘Leading with courage and authenticity in challenging times’. Osai Ojigho, a seasoned human rights expert, lawyer, and gender equality advocate, will share her remarkable journey from an idealistic intern to becoming the Country Director of the world’s leading human rights organization. As Christian Aid’s Policy, Public Affairs, and Campaigns Director, she has led impactful advocacy across the globe, with experience in top organizations like Amnesty International and the International Criminal Court. Recognized among Nigeria’s Top 100 Most Influential Civil Society Leaders and featured in Voices Uprising, which encapsulates her role in demanding justice for the voiceless.

Story Sharing II: ‘Navigating Life’s Transitions’ A Journey of Motherhood, Education, Career and Resilience by Mary Paul Mueni; a dedicated wife and a mother of two, plus an author of 2 books including Mama student with a background in banking, who transitioned into Software Engineering upon moving from Kenya to the Netherlands. Mary is now the owner of IT company, Delesoft which offers design and content development services.

Talk: ‘AI & Human Connection’ Tumelo Setlaba is an innovative AI Data Solutions Architect and Fashion-Tech Startup Founder, with a deep background in AI, e-commerce, and data management will deliver an impactful talk on, exploring how AI can enhance, not replace, human relationships. She will delve into the delicate balance between technology and connection, and how AI can support authentic relationships in our personal and professional lives plus how AI can foster human connections and contribute to our overall well being.

Paneldiscussion Cultivating Healthy Relationships and Authentic Friendships with Margriet Krijtenburg, Senior Lecturer in Spanish and Personal Leadership at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Margriet, who earned her PhD from Leiden University on “Schuman’s Europe,” will discuss the importance of striving to be good and extending that goodness to others, linking it to Schuman’s principles for sound international relationships. Drawing on her rich international experience, including eight years in India, Margriet will provide insights on fostering meaningful connections, inspired by her work and her co-authored children’s book, “The Father of Europe.”

Day 3

Connecting Communication by Gabriella Buirma-Rieu, a coach in Nonviolent Communication and Mediation, explores the power of clear and empathetic communication to build authentic relationships. This engaging presentation and workshop guide participants in expressing their intentions and understanding others’ needs, helping to identify and overcome communication barriers. Through practical exercises and reflective discussions, Gabriella offers a nurturing environment to enhance connections in all types of relationships—whether with spouses, children, friends, or colleagues—based on principles developed by Marshall Rosenberg, emphasizing joyful and meaningful interactions. Husbands/partners and kids from 15 years are welcome to join.

Husbands and teenagers 14+ can participate in the conference and workshop on Sunday 29 September.

There is a possibility for daycare for the younger kids (only on 29 September):
